About Image Oasis

Mike Seebeck - Australian photographer

I have had a passion for photography for about 20 years. I started trying to record beautiful scenes of forest and wilderness I had witnessed when ‘bushwalking’ in central and southern Queensland as a teenager. My photography naturally developed to include travel photography as I began travelling further afield to other places in Australia and to other countries. I began taking photos underwater with Nikonos cameras soon after learning to scuba dive. Unfortunately setbacks, including the flooding of cameras, hampered development of my underwater photography until the last couple of years. I have dived extensively on Christmas Island, where I live as I write this, as well as Cocos (Keeling) Islands, the Solomon Islands, Indonesia (including Bali, Lombok, Lembeh Strait and Wakatobi), New Zealand, Tasmania, and Western Australia.

Equipment

I have used predominantly 35mm slide film (usually Velvia), with a variety of Nikon cameras and lenses. More recently I have been using medium and large format cameras, including panoramic cameras. For underwater photography I have predominantly used a Nikon F100 with Subal housing.

Inspiration

The photographers whose work I have most admired include Ansel Adams, Galen Rowell, Frans Lanting, Jim Brandenburg, and Peter Dombrovskis, and David Doubilet’s underwater photography.

Philosophy

I won’t prattle on about my ethos of photography. I have only strived to create beautiful images as I have seen them. I hope you enjoy them.
